Tony Salazar -  Assistant Athletic Director/ Head Football Coach

Coach Tony Salazar was named Head Football Coach of Westlake HS in January 2022. He begins his 21st year of coaching and his 11th year at WHS and has led the Chaps to three state championships. Prior to taking over as Head Coach, Salazar served as Westlake’s Defensive Coordinator, where his defense consistently ranked in the top five scoring defenses in the state of Texas - #2 in 2019 and #1 in 2020 and 2021. Coach Salazar was the recipient of the Broyles Award in 2020, the top assistant coaching award in the state. He was also a finalist for the Dairy Max-Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Assistant Coach of the Year and a previous winner of the Central Texas Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2023, Coach Salazar was voted by his peers as Coach of the Year for District 26-6A. 

Coach Salazar previously coached at Marble Falls HS, Leander HS, Dripping Springs HS and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Salazar graduated from Dripping Springs HS where he was a four-year letterman in football and a three-year letterman in three additional sports. Coach Salazar received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. While at UMHB, Coach Salazar was a four-year starting free safety and two-time team captain. He won the American Southwest Conference freshman defensive player of the year, the conference defensive player of the year his senior year and won first-team AFCA All-American honors. Salazar was inducted to the UMHB Football Hall of Honor in 2016. 

When not working, he enjoys golfing, traveling and spending time with his son, Cruz, and his wife, Adrienne.

Callan Nokes - Director of Athletics
Callan Nokes was named Eanes ISD Athletic Director in 2022. Prior to being named AD, he served as assistant athletic director for men’s sports for eight years and led the boys golf team for 21 years.

In his last year as head coach, Nokes led the Chaps to their sixth consecutive state championship and was named Texas High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year. He earned National Golf Coach of the Year honors in 2021 by the National High School Coaches Association. The Westlake Boys Golf team played in the State Tournament in 19 of his 21 seasons as Head Coach. Westlake has won more State Titles (13) and invitational tournaments than any other school in 6A history in Texas. 

Nokes started at Westlake High School in 1998 serving as an Assistant Football, Golf, Track and Basketball coach from 1998 to 2002 and coached the offensive line in the 2000 and 2001 5A State Championship games.

Over 21 seasons (with 2020 being lost to the pandemic) his golf teams won:

9 - Team State Championships (2009, 2010, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023)
4 - Individual State Titles (2012, 2014, 2019, 2023)
2 - State team Runners-Up (2012 and 2015)
3rd-place team (2016)
4th-place team three times (2003, 2007, 2011)
17 - Regional Championships
18 - District Championships

In 2013, he was honored by the Texas High School Coaches Association with the highest milestone of victories, compiling 500 victory points in 11 seasons, the fastest to achieve that milestone in 6A history. In 2009, he was named Texas State Coach of the Year and NFHS Southwest United States Regional Coach of the Year. And in 2023 he received the USA Today High School Sports Award for the Austin Area as the Boys Team Coach of the Year.

Callan received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. During that time, he worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Barton Creek Country Club.  

Callan and his wife Kelli have two daughters, Carter who graduated from and Hunter who attends the University of Texas at Austin.

Steve Ramsey – Westlake High School Principal

Steve Ramsey is in his 30th year in education and his ninth year as Westlake High School Principal. He began as a coach and history teacher at Westlake High School in 2002. Ramsey began his administrative career as assistant principal and associate principal at Westlake and principal at West Ridge Middle School before being named principal of Westlake in 2016.  

 Ramsey worked as a teacher and coach at Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin and taught and coached in Kingwood and Duncanville before coming to WHS.
He received a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas State University in 2007. He received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Texas-Austin in 1995.

Ramsey was honored by the Texas Association of Journalism Educators (TAJE) as its Administrator of the Year in 2019. Ramsey was named Educator of the Year by the Westlake Chamber of Commerce in 2021. 

Steve and his wife, Kristin, have three daughters: Kate is a junior at Westlake; ME and Reese graduated Westlake in 2024 and attend the University of Kansas.
