Mary-Ellen is a multi-faceted, results driven, and strategic leader and litigator with 23+ years of experience in leading both legal and management operations. She has a strong history in identifying issues, advising clients, assisting clients in capitalizing on areas of opportunity, advising clients on litigation avoidance, leading internal training efforts, developing effective teams and efficient processes, dispute resolution, litigation management, and trying cases.
Her primary focus is complex insurance coverage litigation, commercial litigation, business litigation, general civil litigation, and real estate litigation. She has extensive experience in representing insurers and insurance companies in complex coverage litigation matters in the states of Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama and federal courts nationwide. She has a history of being an aggressive and professional litigator with proven success in attaining favorable settlement where possible. As a service to her clients, Mary-Ellen provides seminars and training on a variety of topics related to business operations, risk management, claims management, and litigation.
She is Past President of the Rotary Club of Westlake, and she is current President of the Austin Bar Association. The Austin Bar Association is a 4000 member club that provides education, development, networking, and service opportunities for its members. In 2023, Ms. King lost her ex-husband, ex-law partner, and the father of her son to depression and addiction. As a part of her Presidency, she started the Stop the Stigma initiative. Stop the Stigma is designed to change the narrative and discussions around lawyer mental health and substance abuse challenges, as well as lawyer suicide. She has a podcast, has a monthly column in the Austin Lawyer Magazine, and frequently speaks to share her story and share resources with lawyers and families of lawyers in the State of Texas. Her goal during her Presidency is to save one life through having open and honest discussions about these challenges.
