On a sweltering evening 50 years ago, on the very first play of the very first athletic event for the newly constituted Westlake High School, Garey Jackson caught the opening kickoff and returned the football 75 yards for a touchdown. Some would say Westlake High School has been charmed from its beginning.

Hard work, big dreams and uncommon community support created Westlake High School. Perhaps along the way, we’ve been charmed by a little bit of luck, as well. Please join us this week to hear from Eanes ISD Board Member, Ellen Balthazar, to hear more about the 50 year history of the Eanes school district and why the the Chaps are definitely here to stay.

In addition to serving on the Eanes ISD School Board since 2001, Ellen Balthazar serves as the Executive Director of Any Baby Can Child & Family Resource Center in Austin, Texas. Prior to Any Baby Can, she was a marketing consultant, representing clients such as McDonald‘s, Hunt-Wesson, Taco Bell, Frito-Lay, and Pizza Hut, as well as a marketing executive for PepsiCo, Frito-Lay and Procter & Gamble. . She holds a B.S. in Home Economics and a B.S.H.E.J. in Home Economics and Journalism, both from the University of Georgia.
