Jeff Weeks is the founding Principal of ATX Portfolio Advisors®, a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner, and a member of The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) with over a quarter century of experience in the financial services industry.

Jeff grew up in East Texas where he spent summers and weekends working at his father's service station. It was there that he first learned the importance of taking care of customers, especially in a small town where reputations are earned slowly and ruined in an instant. His mother was a school teacher from whom he inherited a passion for reading and learning.

The journey from the Piney Woods to the Hill Country began with a brief stint in the US Army at Fort Benning, GA after graduating from Texas A&M.

He left Georgia and headed to the Shenandoah Valley town of Winchester, VA to begin his wealth management career in 1992 with Edward Jones. His girlfriend since college, however, lived in Dallas. After a year of very high phone bills, his heart brought him back to her and the Lone Star State.

That was when he took a job at Fidelity Investments, where over the next 21 years, he worked in several roles. Jeff started in the Dallas area as what was called a Brokerage Trader. This was before brokerage firms used the internet to provide online trading. People called in anytime they wanted a quote, information, or to place a trade. His job was to answer the phone and address questions covering virtually all facets of trading stocks, bonds, options, and mutual funds. It was a great learning experience.

After about a year, he moved into to a role in one of their branch offices where he worked with clients face-to-face. It was around this time that he and his girlfriend got married. For the next several years, he worked with hundreds of clients as the stock market roared in what is now known as the Dot Com Era. About the time the bubble peaked, he was promoted into management and had his first child, a boy.

Shortly thereafter, they relocated to sunny Southern California. There, he managed two of Fidelity's top performing offices during the bear market of the early 2000's and the housing fueled bull market that followed. While there, they had their second child, this one a California girl. Then, in 2007, Jeff was given the opportunity to move back to Texas.

They moved to Austin just before the financial crisis that triggered the Great Recession. Jeff was responsible for over 5000 relationships representing over $10 billion in assets in Central Texas. It was a great job, but also very demanding of his time and energy. During this time, academic research increasingly showed that the active fund management approach embraced by Fidelity may not be in the best interests of most investors.

In 2014, Jeff decided to start ATX Portfolio Advisors®. One of the main reasons was that he wanted to have more freedom to go to his kids' ball games and other activities while being more active in the local community.

Another was that after working through two of the most extreme market cycles in history, he felt like there were better ways to help investors be successful. Mainly, he wanted his clients to know that we're all in this together.

ATX Portfolio Advisors® is a Fee-Only (When You're Up) Registered Investment Advisor that was founded with the idea that not only do investors need sound and independent evidence-based advice, they also need to know that their advisor is sitting on the same side of the table when the going gets rough.

Based on academic research and personal experience, Jeff believes that conventional active portfolio management rarely justifies the extra expense it typically levies. That is why he has based his approach on the evidence of the power of markets, scientific research, and keeping costs down. In addition, he waives monthly advisory fees when the occasional downturn results in a client’s balance falling below the previous month's.

Jeff believes that as your advisor, his job incorporates being your financial planner, wealth manager, coach, and sometimes counselor. He works with you to build a sound financial plan that addresses your needs and concerns. He’ll be there for you and your family to provide advice and direction along the way, especially when the path seems most uncertain. Your success is his success.
